Hiking and reading

May 11, 2016. Wednesday

Hiked the trail again today a couple of times. Good exercise. Fixed a couple of places on the trail so it is easier to follow.

Read a wonderful book by Carolyn Ridder Aspensen called "Uncharted Territory".  It is the third book in a series of Angela Panther mysteries. Inspired lots of laughs.

May 14, 2016  Saturday

I have been here by myself most of the time. Just the way I like it. I have been hiking the trail several times a day, otherwise I just relax and enjoy watching the birds.

Another peaceful day

May 9, 2016

There has been some heavy equipment parked down by the road and it looks like they are working on widening the road I came in on. Should be a more comfortable trip out. Fortunately, I can't hear them at all.

Made a big batch of rice today in the rice cooker to use in the next couple of days.

May 10, 2016

Cooked a pot of beans in the crock pot today to go with the rice I cooked yesterday. No clouds so it was a good day for it. Had beans, rice and half a can of corn for my meal with an apple for dessert.

Hiked the interpretive trail this evening. It is a short trail, probably less than a mile and passes some ruins along the way. Only one paper explaining the numbered sites in a box with a hornet guarding it. I decided not to bother it.

Mothers Day

May 8, 2016

I believe this is Mothers Day and I have no Internet or cell service here. Sorry Chris!  It is such a wonderful place here and such a long drive out to where I may be able to get service that I am going to just stay here and apologize later.

Partly cloudy today so I am just heating leftovers with my Hot Logic since it doesn't take much power.

Took my trike out so I could get at my leveling blocks. Since I am going to stay here a while, I want the van a little more level. While the trike was out, I reorganized the "garage".

Spent the rest of the day knitting and reading. It is so peaceful here I would just like to stay forever.

Life is good.

Chill morning

May 7, 2016

Chilly this morning but it is sunny so it is warming up. The van is shaded a bit in the morning but at 11:30 I get full sun for the rest of the day so it doesn't take long for the batteries to get back up to 100%.

Started up the crock pot for my main meal today.

Did lots of knitting this morning since it was so cool. Started in on the last color for the striped blanket. Spent the day relaxing with knitting and reading.

A little bit of heaven

May 6, 2016

Left Bighorn and headed north on 180 again. Checked out Cottonwood CG but it was very small and dark. No good for solar!  Just after Cottonwood, Pueblo Park Road turned off to the left so I thought I would check a CG back in there that I saw on my Benchmark maps. 6 miles of a good one lane road later I turned into Pueblo Park CG. What a great place!  It is in tall pines with the sites spread out and only two other campers here. I grabbed a spot away from the other campers and settled in. Can't see either camper from my site.

The CG is at 6150' and has a trailhead and an interpretive trail. The pines smell so good!  Reminds me of Oregon.

Later I moved to a better site after the camper that was there left. My door faces away from the CG and there is more sun for the solar.

This is the scene looking out my door.

Later 4 older guys moved in across the road. I talked to them a bit after dinner. One has a small Tiger motor home.

Life is good.

On my way

May 5, 2016

Left Deming and headed toward Lordsburg via I-10 then took 90 north again to Silver City. Turned off on the truckers bypass to 180 north. Just north of Glenwood, where I bought gas, I stopped at Bighorn Compground in the Gila National Forest. Not much to it and close to the road so l will just stay the night. No one else is here so I picked the choice spot and settled in.  Had one bar of Internet so I did a bit of computer work. I only have 1GB of data on my current plan so I upped it to 6GB starting on the 15th. I will need to be carefull I don't go over that before the 15th to save some money.

Here is a picture of my campsite at Bighorn.

For dinner I put frozen green beans, cooked rice, fresh tomato and carrots into my Hot Logic at 4PM. Opened it up and ate it at 6:15. Could have stayed in a little longer as the green beans were a little tough yet, but otherwise it was good.

Dream Catcher

May 4, 2016

Left the Cliff Dwellings parking lot early and drove south on 15. At the intersection with 35, I turned east and then east on 152 over the Mimbres Mountains. Unfortunately the bike race is on this road too and some of the campgrounds looked like there were people setting up to support the race. I figured it would be a mess, so I kept going. The drive through the mountains was pretty and after getting down I headed south on 27 which ended up in Nutt, NM. At that point I headed south to Deming.

I decided to stop at an Escapees park called Dream Catcher in Deming. While there I did some laundry, took a shower and dumped my garbage. Before I leave, I will fill my water jug and dump my grey water jug.

I didn't take any pictures because it was just a gravel parking lot with hookups, however, they had nice clean showers and laundry room.
